Glasgow City Council Multi-use games area

Notts Sport has been the exclusive supplier of safer playground and MUGA surfacing for play and recreation to Glasgow City Council since 1991, demonstrating a long-standing and trusted partnership.

This appointment reflects the consistent performance of the ChildsPlay system in demanding public environments. Known for its durability and resistance to vandalism, ChildsPlay also offers a wide choice of colours and designs, making it a practical and cost-effective solution for large-scale playground and multi-use games area programmes.

Over the past 28 years, Notts Sport has worked with the council on more than 1,000 playgrounds and multi-use games areas (MUGAs). Many of these projects have involved the refurbishment of existing wetpour rubber surfaces using VHAF NottsSward synthetic carpet, providing a more efficient and cost-effective upgrade for both play and sports environments.

Shaun Patrick, Chairman of Notts Sport, said: “It has been a true partnership with Scotland’s largest local authority. We are proud to have built such a strong and lasting relationship with Glasgow City Council.

“Local authorities can significantly reduce maintenance and repair costs by installing a ChildsPlay system to replace worn wetpour surfaces. In many cases, the artificial turf carpet can be installed directly over the existing base, helping to minimise disruption, time and cost.

“In challenging economic conditions, this provides a practical way to improve play and sports facilities while delivering long-term value for communities.”

The ChildsPlay system combines a durable surface with impact-absorbing layers to create clean, quick-draining playgrounds and MUGAs that perform well in all weather conditions. It is also resistant to cutting, fire and graffiti, making it ideal for high-use public spaces.

The VHAF NottsSward synthetic turf is available in 15 colours, allowing for creative patterns, games and sports markings. It can be installed over flat or contoured surfaces, including mounds and hollows, creating engaging and visually stimulating play and sports environments.

“Local authorities can dramatically reduce their maintenance and repair costs by installing a ChildsPlay system to replace damaged wet-pour rubber play areas. The artificial turf carpet can usually be laid directly on top of the existing surface, keeping the time and costs involved in the project to a minimum.”
