Central Park
New York City
NY

We have worked with the Central Park Conservancy for over eight years, during which time our unique SurfacePlay impact-absorbing playground surfacing systems have been installed across seven playgrounds in one of the world’s most iconic and visited urban parks. These installations highlight the flexibility of the system across a range of play environments and high-traffic areas.

The playgrounds were installed as part of the Conservancy’s ‘Plan for Play’ campaign and have been well received by New York City residents. One local parent commented: “The playgrounds at Central Park are so important in such a dense urban area. Children need safe spaces to play, especially when outdoor space is limited.”

In April 2016, the East 72nd Street play area was voted the favourite playground in Central Park by the public of New York City.

In addition to this award-winning space, SurfacePlay systems have been installed at the East 110th Street playground—often described as the world’s busiest play space—demonstrating both durability and long-term play value. The system continues to perform under heavy daily use, maintaining safety and appearance over time.

Today, Central Park is managed by the Central Park Conservancy in partnership with the municipal government. The Conservancy is a non-profit organisation that contributes 75% of the park’s $65 million annual budget and is responsible for the care of the 843-acre landscape.

“The playgrounds at Central Park are so important in such a dense, urban area. The children need these places to run around safely, especially with homes having such little outdoor space in New York.”
